Passacaglia is well known as one of Britain's most innovative and entertaining chamber music ensembles, blending the sweet, articulate sound of recorders and baroque flute with the ravishing sonorities of viola da gamba and harpsichord. The members of the group have enjoyed a fruitful and productive partnership for over fifteen years, and have become one of the country’s best loved and most respected early music ensembles.
As well as acclaimed performances at the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room, Passacaglia has played at most of the UK's biggest festivals, including the Brighton, York and Beverley Early Music Festivals, Norfolk and Norwich Festival and the Three Choirs Festival. Regulars at many music societies and clubs across the British Isles, they've also toured in Scandinavia, Ireland, America and Europe with internationally respected artists including Dan Laurin, recorders and Julia Gooding, soprano.
As well as many BBC Radio 3 broadcasts, Passacaglia has recorded two discs for Linn Records: Telemann: Chamber Music (CKD170) and Boismortier: Suites and Sonatas (CKD 204). Their Boismortier recording was given the full five stars by Classic FM Magazine and hailed as 'an outstanding artistic success' by Music Week Magazine.
Their next recording is due for release in October 2008 on the Naxos label, featuring guest artist Dan Laurin in a collection of beautiful baroque chamber music by Parisian composer Louis-Antoine Dornel
